Scholarship

We select rural students who demonstrate a strength or skill in a field, for example, life sciences, arts, music, literature, engineering, medicine, or social sciences, who are highly goal oriented and motivated but lack opportunities due to limited financial and educational resources.

Applicants must be from rural schools and if not in school, must have verifiable records that speak to their ability or area of strength. Once selected, he/she is supported by Arodhum to pursue his/her dream either through academic or vocational training of their choice to reach their highest potential in that chosen field of study.

BHARAMANNA BELLIVARI (2016 – 2020)

Bharamannna is from Telaginahatti village, 22 kms from Madwal town in Belgavi district. After scoring 83% in 10th standard, he joined a 3 year diploma program to study Mechanical Engineering at Government Polytechnic College, Belgavi, as he could not afford Engineering college fees. In his diploma coursework, he excelled scoring 93% who went on to score 175th rank in Common Entrance Test. He is very quite, gentle mannered, and very conscientious who loves to read a lot.

RAKSHIT KUMAR (2016 – 2020)

Selected in 2016, Rakshith is in first year of medicine at the Belgaum Medical College, Belgaum, Karnataka. Teachers in Morarji Desai residential school, Arakalgud town, Hassan District, Karnataka state, noticing Rakshith’s intellect and hard work, helped him gain admission with free tuition to Hassan Pre University College, Hassan. During 11 and 12th grade, he scored in the top 1% of his class. In the common admission test for undergrad, Rakshith scores made him eligible for Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary science, and Pharmacy tracks. He chose medicine and his favorite subjects are Physics, Math, and Art. Rakshith’s goal is to do research in medicine after completing MBBS. Degree.

RAVI KUMAR (2014)

Currently in a Bachelor of Commerce program at the Shakunthala Devi International Institute of Management Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka state, India. He is from Bettada Hosahalli of Nelamangala taluk, Karnataka state. He had scored in the top 1% of his graduating 12th class, but gave up his dream of college to care for his leprosy stricken aunt and younger brother. Ravi worked at the Flip Cart Company for 2 years in Bangalore. Since receiving scholarship in 2014, Ravi is thriving in the college atmosphere, majoring in Economics, Business Studies, and Accountancy. He also loves books. He has won singing and quiz competitions representing his college. He also won a cash prize in Suvarna TV channel quiz competition. Ravi’s dream is to start a company after completing master’s degree in business.

LOUIE ALEXANDER (2012)

Meet Louie, brilliant young man from Easley, South Carolina. He is currently completing 10th grade at Powdersville High School, Greenville, South Carolina, USA. Louie is an all round A student, excelling in Mathematics, Science, and History. He loves animals and takes good care of his pets. His goal is to be a Veterinarian.

CHAITHRA (2011)

Selected from the Sumangali Seva Ashrama High School, Cholanayakanhalli, Bangalore rural, Karnataka, Chaithra an engineering graduate dreams of becoming a pilot. Chaithra earned Bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronic engineering, graduating in the top 1% of her class from the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore, Karnataka. Her favorite subjects are Physics and Mathematics. She also loves to debate and enjoys a good round of challenge. In her spare time, she volunteers teaching Math, Science, and English to high school teens. Chaithra’s goal is be a pilot in the Indian Air Force, who is preparing for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). She is works as an engineer at KPIT Technologies, India.

NARASIMHA MURTHY

Murthy a passionate historian from Thadi post, I. D. Halli, Madhugiri Taluk, Tumkur district. He dreamed of a career in Indian administrative services. Selected in 2011, he completed final year of bachelor’s at the Kalpatharu Government Arts College, Tiptur, Tumkur district, Karnataka. He majored in History, Geography, and Political Science scoring in the top 1% of the class. He received gold medals for scoring 1st rank in Geography and 3rd rank in History for the University of Bangalore. Next, he earned an M.A. in History from the University of Bangalore, Karnataka, scoring in the top 1% of the class. He also completed courses in computer basics, English proficiency (conversational) and Indian Administrative Service coaching. He passed Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) and written Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exams. Preparing for IAS interview, Murthy currently works in the Karnataka State Electricity Board. He also writes essays and has won several school and college competitions.

SUPRIYA (2010)

Supriya’s story in a local newspaper caught our attention. She dreamed of becoming a cardiologist so she can serve rural people. After finishing high school, Supriya traveled from her remote village to JNV, Gollahalli, Tumkur district, Karnataka, 40 kms each way to complete 11 th and 12th grades. Though she had a high score in the state common entrance exam (CET), her family had limited financial resources to meet Medical college tuition costs. Relatives and friends advised her to work in a garment factory. Unwilling to give up her dream, Supriya sought help from a local social worker who brought her story to the attention of a newspaper in 2010. She completed 4 years of medical training and currently an intern at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka.

LAKSHMI (2008)

Our first scholarship recipient from Sumangali Seva Ashram High School, Cholanayakanhalli, Bangalore rural, Karnataka, who scored in the 1% of her class in 10th grade. She completed 11 and 12th grade in the top 5% of her class at the Sheshadripuram College, Bangalore. Next in bachelor’s program majored in Economics, Finance, and Accounting and graduated in the top 1% of her class. Since 2014, she is working as an Article Assistant at M. K. Manohar & company and preparing to complete Chartered Accountancy. Her goal is to work as a Chartered Accountant for a multi-national organization. Also practices yoga and has competed at the state and national level yoga competitions and won gold medals and awards for her college. She is a dedicated Red Cross volunteer who also volunteers her time teaching Math, Science and English at the Sumangali Seva Ashrama school.

HARINI

Our first scholarship recipient from Sumangali Seva Ashram High School, Cholanayakanhalli, Bangalore. With scholarship in 2008, she completed 11th and 12th grade in the top 5% of her class at the Sheshadripuram College, Bangalore, Karnataka. Next graduated with bachelor’s degree in top 5% of her class, majoring in Finance, Accounting, and Human Relations at the Sheshadripuram College. Currently in final year of law school, majoring in labor law is working towards her goal of being a company secretary. Also, Harini likes to write andprides onbeing a Red Cross volunteer. She regularly volunteers teaching English and Math to teens from her high school and Accounting to her neighborhood students.

KAVYA

Kavya’s goal is to earn an MBA degree and work for a multinational company. Selected in 2008 from the Shanthinikethan High School, Bangalore, Karnataka, she completed 11th and 12th grades and bachelor’s in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science from the N.M.K.R.V. College, Bangalore, Karnataka. Throughout she scored in the top 25% of her class. She also did several certificate courses in computer applications and represented her college’s dance and singing teams and won several state level competitions. Since 2014, she is working at 24/7 Inc. customer service for Capital One Bank. Within a year, she was promoted as social media executive. She plans to gain industry experience for another year before returning to Business school. She is a National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer and likes to write poems.
